New Petite Newborn Sessions Are Here (Simple, Petite, Beautiful, and Baby-Focused)

OMG! yes! Alert the grandparents to pull out the checkbook!!

Let’s talk about something real for a second…

Not every family is in the same season financially.

And as much as so many parents want newborn photos…
sometimes the thought of a full custom session feels just out of reach.

But here’s the thing:

👉 That doesn’t make your baby any less deserving of being beautifully, safely, professionally photographed.

And it doesn’t mean you should have to miss out.

Introducing: Petite Newborn Sessions

I’m so excited to now offer Petite Newborn Sessions in my cozy studio in Big Spring, Texas — created specifically for families who want a shorter, baby-focused option on a budget while still receiving professional, high-quality images by a photographer who knows her craft.

These sessions are:

✔ Baby-only (wrapped sessions)
✔ 30–45 minutes
✔ Calm, safe, and fully guided with some relaxed posing.
✔ Designed for simplicity and timeless beauty

No overwhelm.
No pressure.
Just your tiny baby, captured beautifully.

A Full Studio Experience (Without You Lifting a Finger)

One of the biggest things parents worry about?

“What do I need to bring?”

The answer: nothing.

My studio is fully stocked with:
✔ high-quality wraps and newborn fabrics
✔ carefully selected props
✔ soft, neutral setups and tons of colors for other options
✔ everything needed to keep your baby comfortable and safe

You don’t need to shop.
You don’t need to plan.
You don’t need to stress.

Just come in, relax, and let me take care of the rest.

 What’s Included

  • 5 fully edited digital images of your choice.
  • Session fee included
  • $750 total investment

This is a smaller offering — but it still reflects the same care, safety, and experience I’ve built over 10+ years as a newborn photographer.

Because even a “petite” session should still feel special.

 Perfect For…

These sessions are ideal if:

✔ you’re wanting professional photos on a smaller budget
✔ you’re a first-time parent just wanting something simple
✔ you’ve been gifted a session (hello, baby shower idea 👀)
✔ you love the clean, wrapped newborn look

It’s also a beautiful option for families coming from Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock, Stanton, and surrounding West Texas areas who want a meaningful experience without a full custom session.

 Why Wrapped Sessions?

Wrapped sessions keep baby:

✔ cozy
✔ secure
✔ calm

✔ can maximize portraits in a short amount of time

And allow me to safely pose your newborn in a way that highlights all those tiny, perfect details — without overstimulating them.

(Also… wrapped babies = instant sleepy vibes 😌)

A Simple Option — With Professional Care

This is a petite experience, not a full custom session.

It doesn’t include:

  • parent or sibling images
  • multiple setups like a fully custom session
  • full galleries or heirloom collections and those museum quality prints you would receive with a custom session

But it does give you something incredibly important:

👉 Safe, professional, timeless images of your baby in their tiniest stage on a budget.

And that matters.

Now… do I really just take 5 photos?

umm… nope! lol! I take more! You can upgrade later if you would like of course, but the Petite Newborn Session does come with 5 polished digitals of your choice!

 Limited Availability

Because these are shorter sessions, I’ll be offering a limited number each month alongside my full custom newborn sessions.

If this feels like the right fit for your family — or someone you love — I would absolutely love to photograph your baby and get you booked!

Let’s Keep It Simple (And Beautiful)

You don’t need a full production to capture something meaningful.

Sometimes…

simple is exactly what you need with a photographer who can’t wait to snuggle up your sweet baby!

Studio located in Big Spring, TX, serving families from Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock, and surrounding areas.

BOOK! BOOK! BOOK! I want ALL the babies!

If you are searching for a photographer who absolutely adores babies, knows their craft and can get a great gallery in a short amount of time, and you need someone who knows how to handle your baby safely with the absolute best care while photographing them… with endless patience (so, I’ve been told!) I’m your girl!

So call, text, or message me asap! Let’s get you booked! 432-270-2255

“I’ll Book Photos When I Feel Better” — Said Every Mom Ever (Who Later Regretted It )

Let’s talk about a very real timeline:

Pregnancy:
“I don’t feel cute right now… I’ll wait.”

Newborn stage:
“I’m exhausted… I’ll wait.”

3 months later:
“Life is crazy… I’ll wait.”

1 year later:
…wait.

Now you’re scrolling your camera roll thinking:

👉 “Why didn’t I just do the photos?”

Pregnancy Is… Not Always Glamorous (Let’s Be Honest)

There’s this expectation that pregnancy should feel magical and glowing.

But in reality?

  • you’re tired
  • your face and feet are swollen
  • nothing fits right
  • everything hurts
  • and your emotions are all over the place

“Glowing” sometimes just means sweaty. 😅

So of course the thought is:

👉 “I’ll take photos when I feel more like myself.”

But here’s the truth…

This version of you matters too.

The one growing a whole human.
The one in the waiting season.
The one your baby will one day look back at in awe.

 And Then Baby Arrives…

And suddenly you’re in survival mode.

  • running on no sleep
  • covered in milk (or spit up… or both)
  • wondering what day it is

Photos?

They feel like the last thing on your mind.

But here’s the wild part:

👉 This is the stage that disappears the fastest.

Those tiny fingers.
The sleepy stretches.
The way they curl up on your chest.

It changes in weeks.

 Real Talk From the Studio

After well over 10 years of photographing baby bumps and newborns in my Big Spring, Texas studio, I can tell you something with full confidence:

The moms who say:
“I almost didn’t book this…”

Are the SAME moms crying at their ordering appointment.

Every. Single. Time.

Because once they see it?

They realize:

👉 “This is what I didn’t want to forget.”

You Don’t Need to Feel “Ready”

You don’t need:

  • the perfect body
  • the perfect outfit
  • the perfect schedule

You just need to show up. This is where I come in! I’ll make you look amazing and yet, still like yourself! We will get that epic shot that makes you feel like a million bucks and if you have other littles that are on the go and you aren’t sure if they will be still long enough for the shot…. just look through the website galleries of Facebook posts… they are full of the same scenario but we got it! Truth is, it only takes a second!

I guide you through everything — from what to wear to how to hold your baby and fix your face — so you can actually relax and just be present.

Worth the Drive (And Designed to Be Easy)

My cozy boutique studio is located in Big Spring, TX, and I regularly serve families from:

Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock, and surrounding West Texas areas (I’m so blessed to have families that drive in to see me and locals who trust me!)

Everything is designed to be simple and stress-free:
✔ snacks + drinks
✔ baby-led sessions
✔ a calm, welcoming environment

✔ activities to keep the other kidos happy

Because you have enough going on already.

The Honest Reminder You Might Need

There is never a “perfect” time.

There is only:
👉 now
or
👉 wishing you had

Let’s Not Be the “I Wish I Had” Story

If you’re expecting or recently had a baby, this is your sign.

Book the session.
Take the photos.
Be in them and trust me!

Because one day, these will mean everything.

Call, text, or message me! Let’s get you scheduled for a consultation to go over everything or go ahead and get you booked! Let’s do it! I cannot wait to meet you!

You Can’t Hold Your Baby Too Much (And Anyone Who Says Otherwise Is Wrong)

Let’s clear something up real quick:

You cannot spoil a newborn by holding them too much.

Not now.

Not ever.

Not even a little.

And yet… so many parents still hear things like:

“Put them down or they’ll get used to it.”

“You’re going to spoil that baby.”

“They need to learn independence.”

Cue the mom guilt. 😵‍💫

The Truth About Newborns (That No One Says Loud Enough)

Your baby spent 9 months:

✔ warm

✔ safe

✔ constantly held

✔ listening to your heartbeat

And then suddenly…

They’re in a big, bright, loud world where everything is new.

Of course they want to be held.

You are their safety.

 What Science Actually Says

Research shows that holding your baby:

✔ helps regulate their heart rate and breathing

✔ reduces stress (for baby AND you)

✔ supports brain development

✔ builds secure attachment

Translation?

Holding your baby is not a bad habit — it’s biological need.

You’re not “spoiling” them.

You’re literally helping them grow.

The Part No One Warns You About

One day…

You will put your baby down and not even realize it’s the last time they fit perfectly in your arms.

They won’t curl into your chest the same way.

They won’t need you the same way.

And no parent has ever said:

👉 “I wish I held my baby less.”

But so many have said:

👉 “I wish I soaked it in more.”

 From a Photographer’s Perspective…

I’ve spent over a decade photographing newborns here in my Big Spring, Texas studio, and I can tell you this with full confidence:

The babies who are held, soothed, and loved on?

They settle better.

They feel secure.

They trust the environment.

And honestly… those snuggly, connected moments?

They make the most meaningful images.

Not the perfectly posed ones.

The real ones.

For Moms in Big Spring, Midland, Odessa & Beyond

Families travel to my studio from Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock, and surrounding West Texas areas for a calm, baby-led experience.

There is no rushing here.

No pressure for “perfect.”

And absolutely no expectation to put your baby down if they need you.

You can hold them as much as you want.

(Actually… I encourage it.)

 A Gentle Reminder

This stage is short.

Exhausting, yes… but incredibly fleeting.

So if your baby wants to be held?

Hold them.

Rock them.

Soak them in.

Memorize the feeling.

Because one day… you’ll miss it.

 Let’s Remember This Season

If you’re expecting or have recently welcomed a baby, I would love to help you capture this tiny, fleeting stage in a way that feels natural and meaningful.

Studio located in Big Spring, TX, serving families from Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, and Lubbock.

Because these moments deserve to be remembered — just as they are.

You meant to plan cute Easter photos.

You pinned the ideas.

Don’t worry — I’ve got you.

The Cutest, Easiest Easter Photos You’ll Ever Do

I’m hosting super last-minute Easter mini sessions in my Big Spring studio this weekend…

And yes — there will be real baby chicks.

(Possibly ducks. No promises. They’re divas.)

Think:

✨ simple + boho

✨ soft + cozy

✨ zero stress for you

✨ maximum cuteness for your kids

Real Talk: Kids + Chicks = Chaos (The Cute Kind)

Will your toddler try to chase a chick?

Probably.

Will the chicks have their own opinions?

Absolutely.

Will we still get adorable photos you’ll treasure forever?

Every single time.

These are the kinds of sessions that feel a little wild in the moment…

and end up being your favorite memories later.

The Details (Because I Know You’re Wondering)

  • $150
  • 20 minute session
  • 10 polished digital images
  • Option to upgrade (because I shoot a LOT in 20 minutes 😅)

Perfect for:

✔ babies

✔ toddlers

✔ siblings

✔ “I need updated photos like yesterday” moms

 Worth the Drive (Promise)

The studio is located in Big Spring, TX, and I’ll have families coming in from Midland, Odessa, Stanton, and surrounding areas for these.

Because let’s be real…

Not everyone has access to baby chicks and a seasoned professional photographer who can wrangle both kids and chaos. 😉

Spring Break With Kids: The Photos You’ll Wish You Took (But Probably Won’t)

Spring break is almost here, and if you’re a parent, you probably have one of two plans:

Plan A: A fun family trip.

Plan B: Survive the week😅

Between road trips, playground adventures, backyard chaos, and kids eating snacks every 17 minutes, spring break tends to fly by in a blur.

And while most parents take plenty of phone photos during the week, there’s something funny that almost always happens…

Mom is missing from most of them.

The Mom Behind the Camera

Scroll through your camera roll for a second.

How many photos do you have of:

✔ the kids

✔ dad with the kids

✔ the dog

✔ random snacks

…but almost none of you with your babies?

It’s one of the most common things I hear when families come into my studio in Big Spring, Texas.

Moms will say things like:

“I realized I’m never in the photos.”

“I have thousands of pictures of my kids but none with me.”

“I wish I had done this sooner.”

And honestly? They’re not wrong. As a photographer mom… I’m rarely in pics and I want to be. I want to preserve those memories of me with my babies so that they can have those when they grow up. I can honestly say… I don’t have enough pictures of my mom. She was good about getting pictures done of us at church growing up, but it wasn’t enough. If you know me, you know I’m all about capturing personalities, smiles, attitudes, habits and so much more that we have in that moment at that time. I love to see emotion so that the photograph means something and you can think back “omg… I loved when she did that” The professional pictures I have of us growing up didn’t show those emotions… and there weren’t enough. My mom isn’t here anymore and it matters. I take more pictures now for my daughter so that she can have plenty to look back on. Even in moments when I don’t like the way I look or I’m not picture ready… our kids love us no matter what. They love us when we don’t have makeup on… tired, bags under our eyes… in sweats… sick… they don’t care. So, make time to be in the pics with your kidos. It matters to the child that grows up.

Why Professional Photos Matter More Than You Think

Your phone does an amazing job capturing everyday moments.

But professional photography does something different.

It slows time down.

The way your toddler grabs your hand.

The way your newborn curls up on your chest.

The way your kids look at you like you’re their whole world.

Those moments deserve more than living inside a camera roll that gets lost in the shuffle of daily life.

They deserve to live on your walls, in albums, and in keepsake boxes that your kids will one day flip through.

If choosing a professional photographer, not Uncle Sam who bought a fancy camera and has a new hobby, but an experienced photographer… they seek out the little things in the special moments of your session. We will capture things you didn’t see but will absolutely be glad we did.

Spring Is the Perfect Time for Family Photos

Spring sessions are some of my favorites because everything feels fresh and full of life.

Kids are energetic.

Families are out of winter mode.

And everyone is ready for sunshine and new memories and the sun stays out longer again, finally!

My studio in Big Spring, TX welcomes families from all over Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, Abilene, Stanton, and surrounding West Texas communities who want a relaxed, guided photography experience.

No stress.

No guessing what to do.

Just beautiful moments captured forever.

A Little Spring Break Reminder

While you’re planning spring break adventures this week, remember something simple:

Your kids won’t remember the snacks you packed.

But they will remember the photos that show how loved they were.

And one day, they’ll be incredibly grateful that you were in those photos too.

Let’s Capture This Season Before It Flies By

I take a limited number of sessions each month to give every family the attention and care they deserve. There’s a lot of care that goes into your images after your session as well.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos or documenting a new baby this spring, now is the perfect time to reserve your session.

Families travel from Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, and Abilene for the cozy, boutique experience my studio offers — and I would love to welcome yours.

Because childhood moves fast.

And these moments deserve to be remembered.

Why Professional Newborn Photography Costs More (And Why It Should)

Let’s talk about something that makes people uncomfortable:

If you’ve ever looked at newborn photography and thought,

“Wait… why does this cost more than my wedding cake?”

You’re not alone.

But here’s what most people don’t see…. and maybe that’s because I’m so seasoned at it, I don’t show it or talk about it…

You’re Not Paying for an Hour.

You’re paying for:

• 10+ years of experience

• Professional newborn safety training (including APNPI education)

• A fully stocked boutique studio

• Hours of careful editing

• Sanitation, props, wraps, lighting

• Patience (so much patience)

• And someone who knows how to safely pose your 7-day-old baby

Newborn photography isn’t just clicking a button.

It’s knowing how to read a baby’s breathing.

How to support their neck.

How to soothe them without rushing.

And that kind of experience doesn’t happen overnight.

“But I Could Just Use My Phone…”

Absolutely.

You can also cut your own hair.

Paint your own house.

Bake your own wedding cake.

Sometimes it works.

But sometimes… you wish you hadn’t.

There is nothing wrong with wanting professional images of the most fleeting season of your life. And there is nothing wrong with investing in it. Oh! and yes… there is AI now for you to use… but what they don’t tell you is… those are someone else’s baby body parts they are using to make your baby’s picture (Yikes!) I don’t know about you, but I don’t like that! I want to remember MY baby when I look back at my photos.

This Isn’t About Photos.

It’s about:

• The last time your baby fits in your hands

• The tiny wrinkles that disappear in weeks

• The way your older child looked at their new sibling

It’s about freezing a moment that you physically cannot recreate.

And here’s the truth no one says out loud:

Most parents don’t regret investing in photos.

They regret not doing them.

Boutique Studio Experience in Big Spring, TX

My studio serves families from Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, and Lubbock who want:

• A calm, guided experience

• A safe environment for their newborn

• Artwork that lasts decades — not just digitals lost on a phone

I take a limited number of sessions each month so every family receives intentional attention and time.

If you’re looking for the cheapest option, I may not be the right fit.

But if you’re looking for experience, safety, and heirloom artwork — I would love to serve you.

Because One Day…

Your baby won’t fit in your arms like that anymore.

And you’ll be glad you chose to remember.

Reach out to me! Let’s get you scheduled for a consultation! Let’s chat over some coffee and snacks! I cannot wait to meet you and get those little baby snuggles or those big baby snuggles! Fill out a form on my website if you would like https://abstractphotographystudio.com/newborn-2/

Valentine’s Day Isn’t Just for Couples (It’s for Baby Love Too)

💘

Valentine’s Day is usually all hearts, chocolate, and overpriced flowers…

but let’s be honest — when you’re pregnant or holding a brand-new baby, romance looks a little different.

It looks like:

  • compression socks and heartburn
  • swollen ankles instead of sexy heels
  • dry shampoo as self-care
  • and a baby who thinks 2 a.m. is the perfect time for cuddles

And yet… this is one of the most love-filled seasons of your life.

“I Don’t Feel Cute Enough for Photos”

I hear this all the time from expecting moms.

“I’ll wait until I feel better.”

“I don’t look like myself.”

“I’ll do photos after the baby is here.”

And then years later — almost every single mom tells me the same thing:

👉 “I wish I had done maternity photos.”

Not because they felt perfect…

but because they want to remember this version of love.

The anticipation.

The quiet excitement.

The last moments before your life changes forever.

True Story: The Valentine Session No One Expected

I once photographed a maternity session close to Valentine’s Day where mom told me she “just wanted one nice photo.”

By the end?

  • Dad was crying
  • Mom said she hadn’t felt beautiful in months
  • And they booked newborn photos before they even left the studio

Because seeing yourself through someone else’s lens — especially during pregnancy — can change everything.

 Newborn Love Hits Different

And then baby arrives…

and suddenly Valentine’s Day isn’t about roses — it’s about tiny fingers, sleepy snuggles, and that overwhelming kind of love you can’t explain.

Those first weeks are messy, exhausting, and magical.

They’re also gone in a blink.

That’s why I always say:

Newborn photos aren’t about perfection — they’re about preserving a feeling.

A Boutique Studio Worth the Drive

My studio is located in Big Spring, Texas, and families regularly travel from Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock, and beyond for a calm, cozy, boutique experience.

You don’t have to stress about:

  • what to wear
  • how baby will behave
  • or feeling awkward in front of the camera

That’s my job — you just show up and love your baby.

Valentine’s Reminder (This Is the Urgent Part)

I take a limited number of maternity and newborn sessions each month so every family gets the time, patience, and attention they deserve.

If you’re:

  • currently pregnant
  • due in the next few months
  • or holding a newborn right now

This is your sign to book.

Because the one thing every mom has in common — whether they booked or not — is that they wish they could go back and freeze time just a little longer.

💌 Let’s capture it while we can. Fill out the form on my homepage by hitting the following link and I’ll get with you as soon as I can! I cannot wait to meet you!

Would you rather all or text me! Go for it! If I do not answer your call, PLEASE leave a message so I can call you back! 432-270-2255

What Really Happens When Siblings Join Newborn Sessions (Spoiler: Snacks Are Involved)

If you’re expecting a baby and already have one (or three) at home, you’ve probably wondered:

“Is bringing siblings to a newborn session going to be… a disaster?”

Short answer: no.

Long answer: snacks will be involved, and it’ll be just fine.

Let’s Set Expectations Real Quick

Siblings are not expected to:

❌ sit perfectly

❌ smile on command

❌ whisper

❌ behave like tiny adults

They are expected to:

✔ be curious

✔ ask questions

✔ want snacks

✔ need breaks

✔ occasionally “help”

This is normal. This is real life.

The Great Snack Negotiation

Every sibling session has at least one moment where a parent says:

“If you sit for one more picture, you can have another snack.”

Goldfish crackers become currency.

Fruit snacks are highly motivating.

Bribery? We fully support it here.

Toddlers Want to Help (Bless Them)

Siblings love:

  • holding baby’s hand
  • fixing wraps that don’t need fixing
  • telling me baby’s name 37 times
  • announcing when baby opens their eyes

And honestly? Those moments are some of the sweetest ones we capture. I LOVE IT!!

Chaos-Proof and Judgment-Free

I plan sessions with siblings in mind.

That means:

  • flexibility
  • patience- loads and loads of patience… I have tons!
  • breaks when needed
  • zero pressure

If your toddler needs a minute? Totally fine. If you need a minute… totally fine! Sometimes mom or dad needs a minute and a snack! I continue on while you go get that!

If they’re done after five minutes? We already got what we need! It’s fine! They aren’t going to last that long anyways!

I promise — we don’t need perfection to create beautiful images.

Why Multi-Kid Moms Are My Favorite

Seasoned moms come in relaxed.

They know:

  • kids are unpredictable
  • stress doesn’t help
  • memories matter more than control

And those moms almost always leave saying:

“That was way easier than I expected.”

Worth the Drive (Even With Kids in Tow)

Families drive in from Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, Abilene, and all over West Texas for studio sessions because everything is set up for you — including sibling-friendly flow.

No cleaning your house.

No stressing over lighting.

No worrying if your kids will “ruin” the session.

They won’t.

If You’re Expecting and Have Older Kids…

Don’t let sibling worries stop you from documenting this season.

We’ll roll with it.

We’ll laugh through it.

And you’ll walk away with images that reflect your real, beautiful family — chaos and all. They will be absolutely beautiful!

Why Printed Photos Matter More Than Digitals (Especially for Busy Moms)

Let’s be honest for a second.

Most moms have thousands of photos on their phone.

Beautiful moments. Sweet smiles. Tiny details.

And yet…

they’re buried somewhere between screenshots, grocery lists, and accidental photos of the car ceiling. How many times have you looked for a photo that you couldn’t find, but just knew it was there?! ugh! Soooo frustrating!!

Printed photos are different…. and OMG!!! When you get them up on the wall through Abstract Photography, its a GORGEOUS STATEMENT that you just want to keep staring at and show off!!

They don’t get lost.

They don’t need charging.

They don’t disappear when phones break or apps change.

They live where life actually happens.

Busy Moms Don’t Scroll — They Glance

This is something I see all the time with families from Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, and San Angelo.

Busy moms don’t sit down and scroll galleries.

They walk past the hallway.

They pass the living room.

They pause at the staircase.

And that’s where printed photos shine.

A framed portrait.

A matted print in a keepsake box.

An album pulled off a shelf on a quiet afternoon.

Those moments happen naturally — without effort.

Why Prints Mean More As Time Passes

Digital files feel important right now.

Printed photos feel important later.

When your baby is:

  • starting kindergarten
  • losing their first tooth
  • rolling their eyes at you in middle school

Those prints become proof of how small they once were.

They’re not just images — they’re memory anchors.

“But I Don’t Know Where I’d Put Wall Art…”

This is one of the biggest hesitations moms share during consultations. They think, “omg, that’s one more decision I have to make”. This is a fun one though! and…

That’s why ordering appointments matter, and guess what?! I have this nifty program that I can upload a picture of your space and correctly size what it is you would like so that you can actually see it before ordering it! How cool is that!

We talk through:

✔ your home

✔ your space

✔ your style

✔ your comfort level

✔ your budget….

Some families want statement pieces.

Some want smaller wall collections.

Some love albums they can hold and revisit…. or the print collection boxes.

There is no one-size-fits-all — and there doesn’t need to be.

Digitals + Prints: Not Either/Or

Here’s the good news: you don’t have to choose.

Every printed piece includes a matching digital file, so you can share, brag, back up, and keep those images safely stored — without sacrificing the beauty of having something tangible.

It’s the best of both worlds.

Why Moms Thank Themselves Later

I can’t tell you how many times moms say:

“I’m so glad we did this.”

Not because they bought the biggest piece.

Not because they spent more than planned.

But because they printed something at all and they absolutely love it!

Designed for Real Life (Not Just Instagram)

In a world where everything lives on a screen, printed photos slow time down. It just hits differently as well when a person in the photo becomes a memory as well. It’s so sad, we don’t think it will ever happen, but we don’t live in a perfect world, and it does. It does happen to us. I’m so honored that I get to be the choice photographer for those special memories. That’s another reason why we print… to have our loved ones on the wall or in an album, especially when they do become a memory.

Call or text Abstract Photography today and get scheduled for your consultation!

“When Should I Actually Book Newborn Photos? (Hint: It’s Earlier Than You Think)”

If you’re pregnant and thinking:

“I still have time… I’ll book newborn photos after the baby gets here.”

I love your optimism.

But newborns? They do not respect timelines.

Here’s the truth most parents don’t find out until it’s too late:

The best time to book newborn photos is while you’re still pregnant.

Why Waiting Sounds Logical (But Rarely Works)

I totally get it. When you’re expecting, your brain is already juggling:

  • doctor appointments
  • baby gear decisions
  • names
  • nursery plans
  • and approximately 4,000 Amazon tabs

Newborn photos feel like a “future you” problem.

But once baby arrives?

You’re tired. Emotional. Healing. Running on coffee and adrenaline.

That’s when I get messages like:

“Do you have any openings this week?”

And sometimes… I don’t. 😔

Why Newborn Photographers Book by Due Date

Newborn sessions aren’t booked by baby’s birthday — they’re booked by due date windows.

Why?

Because babies decide when they arrive. Sometimes, they leave quickly from the hospital and sometimes they require a lengthier stay. If this happens, its’ completely fine! No need to stress! Depending on the length of the stay, we can push the date!

And sessions work best within the first 7–14 days, when they’re still sleepy, curly, and flexible.

To keep sessions calm, safe, and unrushed, I only take a limited number of due dates per month.

That means:

✔ flexibility if baby comes early or late

✔ no overbooking

✔ a relaxed experience for you

What Booking Early Actually Looks Like

Booking early does NOT mean you’re locking in a specific date before baby arrives.

It means:

  • we reserve space around your due date
  • once baby is born, you let me know
  • we finalize your session date based on baby’s arrival

Simple. Stress-free. No guessing.

“But What If I End Up Not Wanting to Be in the Photos?”

This is something moms worry about — especially first-time moms. They are uncomfortable, they don’t feel pretty… it’s hard to know what to expect when you deliver a baby until you do it!

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of photographing newborns for families in Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, and Abilene:

No one regrets having the photos. EVER! If you decide not to be in the photos, this is totally fine! We can do sibling and/or just baby! I’ve don’t TONS of just baby sessions! Although, I always encourage mom and dad to be in the photos.

What moms do regret is missing the window and having them done all together.

Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Studio Sessions = Even More Reason to Book Ahead

Because my sessions are done in-studio:

  • lighting is controlled
  • temperature is perfect for baby
  • props and wraps are ready
  • and you don’t have to prepare your home

That calm experience only works when the schedule isn’t overloaded — which is why I protect my calendar carefully.
