Spring Break With Kids: The Photos You’ll Wish You Took (But Probably Won’t)

Family photographer, newborn photographer, midland photographer, Odessa photographer, big spring photographer, baby photographer

Spring break is almost here, and if you’re a parent, you probably have one of two plans:

Plan A: A fun family trip.

Plan B: Survive the week😅

Between road trips, playground adventures, backyard chaos, and kids eating snacks every 17 minutes, spring break tends to fly by in a blur.

And while most parents take plenty of phone photos during the week, there’s something funny that almost always happens…

Mom is missing from most of them.

The Mom Behind the Camera

Scroll through your camera roll for a second.

How many photos do you have of:

✔ the kids

✔ dad with the kids

✔ the dog

✔ random snacks

…but almost none of you with your babies?

It’s one of the most common things I hear when families come into my studio in Big Spring, Texas.

Moms will say things like:

“I realized I’m never in the photos.”

“I have thousands of pictures of my kids but none with me.”

“I wish I had done this sooner.”

And honestly? They’re not wrong. As a photographer mom… I’m rarely in pics and I want to be. I want to preserve those memories of me with my babies so that they can have those when they grow up. I can honestly say… I don’t have enough pictures of my mom. She was good about getting pictures done of us at church growing up, but it wasn’t enough. If you know me, you know I’m all about capturing personalities, smiles, attitudes, habits and so much more that we have in that moment at that time. I love to see emotion so that the photograph means something and you can think back “omg… I loved when she did that” The professional pictures I have of us growing up didn’t show those emotions… and there weren’t enough. My mom isn’t here anymore and it matters. I take more pictures now for my daughter so that she can have plenty to look back on. Even in moments when I don’t like the way I look or I’m not picture ready… our kids love us no matter what. They love us when we don’t have makeup on… tired, bags under our eyes… in sweats… sick… they don’t care. So, make time to be in the pics with your kidos. It matters to the child that grows up.

Why Professional Photos Matter More Than You Think

Your phone does an amazing job capturing everyday moments.

But professional photography does something different.

It slows time down.

The way your toddler grabs your hand.

The way your newborn curls up on your chest.

The way your kids look at you like you’re their whole world.

Those moments deserve more than living inside a camera roll that gets lost in the shuffle of daily life.

They deserve to live on your walls, in albums, and in keepsake boxes that your kids will one day flip through.

If choosing a professional photographer, not Uncle Sam who bought a fancy camera and has a new hobby, but an experienced photographer… they seek out the little things in the special moments of your session. We will capture things you didn’t see but will absolutely be glad we did.

Spring Is the Perfect Time for Family Photos

Spring sessions are some of my favorites because everything feels fresh and full of life.

Kids are energetic.

Families are out of winter mode.

And everyone is ready for sunshine and new memories and the sun stays out longer again, finally!

My studio in Big Spring, TX welcomes families from all over Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, Abilene, Stanton, and surrounding West Texas communities who want a relaxed, guided photography experience.

No stress.

No guessing what to do.

Just beautiful moments captured forever.

A Little Spring Break Reminder

While you’re planning spring break adventures this week, remember something simple:

Your kids won’t remember the snacks you packed.

But they will remember the photos that show how loved they were.

And one day, they’ll be incredibly grateful that you were in those photos too.

Let’s Capture This Season Before It Flies By

I take a limited number of sessions each month to give every family the attention and care they deserve. There’s a lot of care that goes into your images after your session as well.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos or documenting a new baby this spring, now is the perfect time to reserve your session.

Families travel from Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, and Abilene for the cozy, boutique experience my studio offers — and I would love to welcome yours.

Because childhood moves fast.

And these moments deserve to be remembered.
